Elm Park 16 Sep 2015
Heavily backed with the rain falling in his favour and his rider got the tactics spot on. Whether he reverts to 1m2f for the Champions Stakes or remains at this trip for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is not certain at this stage, but one has to think he´d relish getting back over a stiffer test.
Cymric 16 Sep 2015
Ground did not look suited to this horse. Took a while to settle, but showed decent attitude to take the win.
Hillgove Angel 15 Sep 2015
Previous success on similar ground over this C&D 2 races ago. Not the best of starts, but once given the room moved quickly to the front. His record in sellers now reads 21211. He was bought by Linda Perratt for 11,500gns at the auction. 11-10
Emotionless 12 Sep 2015
Was impressive when making a winning debut at Newmarket last month and that form has been well advertised since. Despite this big rise is class, he was even more impressive here, travelling like a dream behind the leaders before his rider had the luxury of a cheeky look between his legs coming to the last furlong. Once asked to stretch, he had little trouble passing the leader entering the last furlong and only had to be nudged along to pull clear.
Legatissimo 12 Sep 2015
Settled just off the pace, she travelled strongly. Kept picking up and having gone to the front she gradually increased her gallop and was on top more at the line than at any point in the straight. The Breeders Cup seems to be the plan, if she gets good or quick ground out there she´ll be very hard to beat. 7-4
Bondi Beach 12 Sep 2015
Only made his debut in May. In midfield before moving up inside the last 3f, he was given a bump by Simple Verse as she was pulled out passing the 2f pole and, with the pair racing tight against each other afterwards, received another bump from her inside the last furlong and could never quite get past. However, it did appear that he had plenty of opportunity to go by the filly had he been good enough and he looked fortunate to be given the benefit of the doubt at the stewards´ enquiry. Despite that, he remains unexposed and looks capable of winning more decent prizes as a 4yo. 2-1
Gutaifan 11 Sep 2015
Only his second attempt at the minimum trip, he was ridden to edge ahead inside the last furlong and dug deep to maintain his narrow advantage. He never wins by far and is likely to appreciate the move back up to 6f if taking in the Middle Park. 7-4
American Artist 11 Sep 2015
was a bit enthusiastic on this step up in trip, but it was nothing to be too worried about and he stayed on well when strongly challenged by the runner-up, improving his record to 4-8. He probably still has more to give. 3-1
Very Talented 10 Sep 2015
Rarely looked in danger int he race setting out to the front early. Remained unfazed by rivals closing up, and the trip clearly suited.
Nemoralia 10 Sep 2015

n easy winner for the Balding camp - made all and stormed home by and easy 2 1/4 lengths.
Young John 07 May 2015
Was sent off favourite when second of five on his Chelmsford debut in March and the money came for him again. Hampered exiting the stalls, he was going nowhere at halfway and had a lot of ground to make up, but they had gone hard up front and he swept up the inside rail to grab the race near the line. He looks to need 6f already.
My Friend George 06 May 2015
Advised at 7-2, My Friend George got better the further he went and mastered the runner-up on the run-in, winning with a little up his sleeve. He´s now won his last two over fences and is a little better than this grade on his day.
Rusty Rocket 05 May 2015
On whom Paul Mulrennan was a late switch replacing the injured Joe Fanning, was down in grade on this return to the turf. Always close to the pace, he battled on bravely when headed 1f out to get the better of a tight finish. He looks a better horse with ease in the ground and should remain nicely treated.
Chevallier 05 May 2015
Has run several solid races in defeat and deserved to get off the mark. The further he went the better he looked and it wasn´t a surprise to hear his jockey suggest he´ll probably be moving up to 7f soon enough.
Gleneagles - Newmarket 02 May 2015
Winner of the Group 1 National Stakes and first past the post in the Lagardere on his final outing at two (ahead of today´s runner-up), is a brother to Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Marvellous, so this was always likely to be his trip, and despite getting warm beforehand, he got a lovely tow into the race and readily went to the front with a fine change of acceleration approaching the final furlong, maintaining his advantage all the way to the line. A first win in the race for Ryan Moore, further Group 1 success surely lies ahead for the son of Galileo, with the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James´s Palace Stakes obvious targets.
Birchwood 02 May 2015
Cost 77,000gns as a yearling and is the first foal out of a fair 7f winner. He looked the part beforehand but started a step slowly from an awkward, isolated low draw. The Dark Angel colt didn´t take long to get the hang of things though, racing just off the leaders at halfway. He then threw down a sustained challenge to his more experienced opponent, and had him beaten 100 yards from the line. He will have learned plenty for stiffer tasks at up to around 6f this term.
Red Rubles 30 Apr 2015
Making his AW debut after 202 days off, looked an unlikely winner from some way out and didn´t take the home bend too well, but he found his stride in the straight and just managed to forge his way to the front. He will probably need to improve on this to be competitive in handicaps off a mark of 79.
Mizzou 29 Apr 2015
Has improved with each start as a 3yo, just being denied in a 1m6f Listed race at the course on his final outing, and judging by this effort he has made a good deal of further progress over the winter. Although impeded coming out of the stalls and then outpaced, he finished strongly in the straight and picked up in tidy fashion to draw away inside the final furlong. Stamina looks his strong suit and all roads now will lead to the Gold Cup here in June, for which he is a general 10-1 shot. He´ll likely take in the Henry II Stakes at Sandown first.
Basil Berry 28 Apr 2015
Advised at 7-1, this horse was back up in distance, has been contesting better races on the AW this year and appreciated the drop in grade. Always handy before being set alight to lead rounding the home bend, he soon established an advantage that proved unassailable, if only just. He is a versatile type regards trip.
Scooner 27 Apr 2015
Whose Newbury third last autumn set a decent standard, was given a no-nonsense ride and got the job done tidily. Quick ground should suit back on turf and, as a brother to a couple of black-type performers, has the potential to improve plenty.
Harley Rebel 27 Apr 2015
Was always handily placed before pulling clear for an effortless success to get off the mark at the fifth attempt. He could prove a good bit better than his current mark, while connections are looking to send him hurdling.
Storm the Stars 25 Apr 2015
Disappointing at Newmarket on his reappearance, but he was given a more prominent ride this time and was soon allowed to dictate a pace to suit himself. He won easily in the end and looks an interesting type for good quality handicaps.
Jack Hobbs 24 Apr 2015
Whose galloping companion Christophermarlowe won the Derby Trial at Epsom earlier in the week, was sent off a short price to defy a mark of 85 on his handicap debut, and he simply destroyed his rivals. Once asked to quicken he put a lot of distance between himself and his rivals in a short space of time, and looks a real class act. Obviously he´s going to face much tougher tasks in future, but this will have done him the world of good experience-wise, and he can now go on to a Derby trial a little more street wise. He´s now no bigger than 12-1 for Epsom.
Mutarakez 24 Apr 2015
The stable has started out well this season, won this in impressive style, quickening up nicely and stretching clear in the closing stages. He got the mile well, handled the tacky ground and should be a big player in the big 1m handicaps to come this summer.
For Instance 23 Apr 2015
Won an Irish point when last seen in November, took this in comfortable style, staying on nicely for hands and heels riding in the final stages. This didn´t look the strongest contest, but he should have plenty more improvement to come.
Audacious Plan 22 Apr 2015
A winner here over hurdles, was stepping back up in trip and the better ground has enabled him to see it out well. Travelling well into the race, he found more than his market rival, and had the race sewn up by the time he jumped out to his right at the final fence. He´s a largely consistent type, but may struggle to win off higher marks.
Lungarno Palace 22 Apr 2015
7lb above his last winning mark, still had to prove his stamina but he did so in no uncertain terms. Produced to lead over a furlong out, he was challenged strongly but managed to pull out a bit more and saw the trip out really well. This opens up plenty more options for decent handicaps over this distance.
Jimmy The Jetplane 21 Apr 2015
Made it four wins from his last five outings with a typically gutsy effort. Another 3lb higher, he was back on suitably quicker ground and having a first run over 3m under rules. He again hit a flat spot, but David Bass now knows him well and the 7yo was always doing enough once in front despite lacking fluency. The handicapper has trouble fully getting to grips with this type and he´s open to more improvement as a stayer, with a switch to fences not far off.
Bon Chic - 2-1 19 Apr 2015
Asserted authority coming to the last and won with a fair amount left up her sleeve. The 6yo came good for this sort of ground at Southwell last month, had clearly kicked off in handicaps on a good mark, and could well be the sort to run up a sequence.
Star of Seville - 4-1 17 Apr 2015
Impressed when bolting up in a Doncaster maiden (1m, good to soft) on her second and final start at two, and that form was franked when the runner-up won next time. It´s worth noting the second division of that contest was won by the promising Beautiful Romance (third in the Nell Gwyn), although that one didn´t have the benefit of experience and still recorded a slightly quicker time. It´s also worth taking a look back at Star Of Seville´s debut as she was beaten into third by a newcomer called Goodyearforroses, who hasn´t been seen since but is in the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks. That one, who is with Rae Guest, is a bit of a dark horse for the season. This filly, though, has clearly done well over the winter, looking a really powerful sort, and she ran these into the ground. She will be a leading player for the Oaks trial back here, although in the longer term whether Epsom will prove ideal for a filly who looks a proper galloping type remains to be seen. She was chopped to around 10-1 for the Oaks.
Golden Horn 15 Apr 2015
Looked a promising type when overcoming greenness to win his maiden here last back-end, handled this quicker ground well and saw his race out strongly. He´s in the French Derby, and is a best price 25-1 for the Epsom Derby, but he´d have to be supplemented for that race, and in any case he wouldn´t be sure to stay 1m4f on breeding. He looks promising though, and we´ll learn more if he shows up for the Dante next month.
Whisper - Aintree 5-1 11 Apr 2015
Didn´t have the ideal build-up to the World Hurdle after a chasing campaign was quickly aborted following an odds-on defeat on New Year´s Day, so it was reasonable to expect improvement from his fifth-placed finish at Cheltenham, especially as he showed his liking for this track when winning this race last year. He saw it out strongly and, granted a smoother campaign next season, could well be a bigger player in next year´s World Hurdle, for which he´s 10-1 in most places.
Nichols Canyon - Aintree 3-1 11 Apr 2015
Raced too freely and was not that fluent at his hurdles when behind todays runner-up at Cheltenham, settled much better here and was always going well. He came through to lead at the second-last and then found plenty to hold off his old rival. He was subsequently given quotes for both the World Hurdle and Champion Hurdle, but a return here next year for the Aintree Hurdle might be a suitable target.
Don Cossack - Aintree 3-1 10 Apr 2015
In fine form this season and ran well in the Ryanair last time. He was never far away here and, once getting to the front at the first in the straight, was always in command and drew right away. This was impressive and was generally quoted at around 8-1 for the King George afterwards.
Saphir Du Rheu - Aintree 13-8 10 Apr 2015
Put up a display of real quality and gave his trainer a fourth win in this in the past decade, emulating his owner´s former outstanding Big Buck´s. He ran a mighty race in the World Hurdle on his previous outing, but Paul Nicholls has always believed in him as a chaser and was taking a last chance in novice company. The 6yo jumped with aplomb in the main, under a clever ride, and had it sewn up from the third-last. If anything he still looked a little green in between his fences and he has to rate yet another worthy candidate for a hugely exciting Gold Cup division next season. Ante-post quotes immediately offered after this of up to 20-1 could look massive when it comes to the 2016 Festival.
Process 08 Apr 2015
Winner at the course on his debut a fortnight previously and, with that from franked, was a warm favourite to go in again. Running off an initial mark of 85, he dictated a slow gallop, before going through the gears and lengthening nicely in the straight and then settling matters with a burst of speed in the final furlong. He has made a promising start to his career and we´ll learn more next time.
Rain Wind and Fire 08 Apr 2015
Recorded a winning start to his career over this trip at Lingfield in February and made it 2-2 with a battling victory. No winners have come from that maiden, but with expected improvement factored in he started a well-backed favourite and displayed a willing attitude to get home in front. Nicely bred, he will make his presence felt wherever he turns up next.
Starletina 06 Apr 2015
STARLETINA, a half-sister to two winners in France at up to 1m3f, traveled well behind the leader and did it very professionally when asked to pick up. She looks a nice sort and can go on to better things.
Very Special 04 Apr 2015
Last outing out was Newmarket in October finishing third behind Osaila. Impressed greatly in this race as keen early on and chased down the runner-up before taking the win. Still unsure how good this little mare is and is still in the 1,000 guineas with a top price 40-1, surely one to watch.
Pretend 03 Apr 2015
Progressing well and confirmed as showing Group-race potential with easy success. Back up to 6f having beaten Alben Star last year he has continued that form here. The way he travels suggests a drop back to 5f on turf should not be a problem.
Isthedifference 02 Apr 2015
Won off 5lb lower over 2m4f on good to firm at Stratford in July last year, and was returning from a seven-month break for a bang in-form yard. Surviving a scary moment when he pitched badly on landing at the fifth, but came through in the home straight under an excellent ride from Noel Fehily to win decisively.
Baltic Prince 01 Apr 2015
Having avoided a penalty for his C&D win a week earlier and despite the company upfront he managed to shake off rivals for a strong finish. Looking good for a hat-trick!
Robins Reef 30 Mar 2015
A classy performance from the mare whos yard is on top form. A very confident ride with only one small jumping error made on the far side, but she showed she could dig deep when needed. A solid performance.
Tamarkuz 28 Mar 2015
Despite this horses issue with the stalls, and a sticky start, he managed to quicken nicely through the early stages of the the race to recover position narrowly holding on to the lead. The owner has hinted on aiming this horse at the World Cup next year.
Shantou Village 27 Mar 2015
Stable currently in very good form and was well backed on the strength of an Irish point-to-point win. Expertly ridden and made good ground to take charge 2f out, quickened nicely without being unduly pressurized. He looks to have a bright future.
Subversive 27 Mar 2015
Would have been very unlucky to lose this after getting tucked up against the rail coming up to the straight. But showed strength on the home straight finishing well to take the win. Returning to 7f would suit this horse.
Fingerontheswitch 23 Mar 2015
On the back of a convincing win in December he put that experience to great effect as he bossed the race from a long way out under Tony McCoy and was much too good. A sound surface evidently suits.
Oscar Blue 15/8 - Sedgefield 20 Mar 2015
Showing great promise from his debut sixth at Newcastle, pulling out extra inside the final furlong. He´s a chaser in the making and his future will be over further than this.
Dodging Bullets - Cheltenham 11 Mar 2015
Dodging Bullets was only fourth in last year´s Arkle, but his breathing has been sorted since and, having won the Tingle Creek and Clarence House on his last two starts, he came in as the form horse. He jumped cleanly and battled when he needed to, and this was a very professional performance.
Quality Art - Lingfield 04 Mar 2015
